TivoliVredenburg welcomes one of the most prestigious orchestras in Europe: the London Philharmonic Orchestra. With a ‘British-continental’ programme, it proves to be deeply rooted in European musical culture, but also to be a step ahead when it comes to perhaps the most iconic British work written for symphony orchestra: Sir Edward’s Enigma Variations.
The London Philharmonic Orchestra is a top international orchestra that owes its name and fame in part to conductor Bernard Haitink, who led the orchestra for many years, after illustrious predecessors such as Sir Thomas Beecham, Sir Adrian Boult, Sir Georg Solti and Kurt Masur.
No orchestra can reach deeper into Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, in which the composer portrays his most intimate friends and wife Alice. It is a varied and loving series of character sketches, each time depicted by a different instrument.

Geen orkest weet dieper door te dringen tot de raadselachtige Enigma Variations van Edward Elgar, waarin de componist zijn beste vrienden en echtgenote Alice portretteert.
