Sustainability at TivoliVredenburg

A lifetime of music, now and in the future

At TivoliVredenburg, we recognize the environmental impact of live music and aim to lead the way in making music venues across the Netherlands more sustainable. Sustainability is embedded in every part of our organization. While we still have a long journey ahead, we are committed to moving forward—step by step—in the right direction.

In late 2023, we conducted an impact assessment that mapped not only our own CO₂ emissions, but also those generated throughout our chain—including visitors and performing artists. This baseline measurement gave us valuable insights into where our greatest opportunities for improvement lie.

Our sustainability policy is built around four key pillars. Below is an overview of our efforts and ambitions.

Travel and Transport

Currently, 85% of our visitors travel to us by public transport, bike, or on foot. We aim to encourage the remaining visitors to choose more sustainable travel options as well. In collaboration with our suppliers, we are working to reduce transport-related emissions. While we have less influence over touring artists, we support them wherever possible in minimizing their climate impact.

Energy Use

By 2025, we expect 80% of our electricity to come directly from Dutch solar and wind energy. We’re also replacing all lighting with energy-efficient LEDs and saving millions of liters of drinking water thanks to our waterless urinals. In the coming years, we’ll introduce further measures related to insulation, heat recovery, and stage technology.

Circularity

We actively reduce and manage waste. We recycle materials such as PET bottles, coffee grounds, and orange peels. All single-use plastics have been phased out, and we reuse hard plastic cups at concerts. Even wine bottles are repurposed instead of discarded. When renovating or furnishing, we prioritize local companies and circular materials wherever possible.

Sustainable Procurement

We hold our partners to high sustainability standards and prioritize eco-friendly practices when signing new contracts. For example, our beer—supplied by AB InBev—is brewed using 100% renewable energy. Vegetarian options dominate our menus at festivals, in the artists’ foyer, and at Kitchen Bar Danel. We source as much as possible from local partners.

“Our mission – a lifetime of music for everyone – also means that music must still be heard by future generations. That’s why we take care of the environment and work every day to make our live music, events, and hospitality even more sustainable. We do this together with our suppliers, artists, and audiences.”

– Suzanne van Dommelen, Managing Director

What Can You Do?

You can also make a difference! Travel to TivoliVredenburg by public transport, bike, or on foot. There’s no need to print your ticket—just show it on your phone. And when you’re done with your drink, please don’t toss your hard plastic cup on the floor—return it to the bar so it can be reused.
