Pianist Aaron Diehl speelt met wat de The New York Times noemt ‘“melodic precision, harmonic erudition and elegant restraint.” Zijn samenwerkingen met o.a. Benny Golson, Joe Temperly en Cécile McLorin Salvant, composities en tot in de puntjes uitgewerkte liveshows zijn leidend in de moderne jazz. Benny Golson, die hem al kent uit Diehls’s tijd op Julliard en meespeelt op zijn meeste recente album Space Time Continuum, zei over Diehl: “He exposes his mind and heart in the things that he’s writing, and those kind of things tend to be long lasting. That is where he is today and he’s just begun – he is rising.” Vanavond presenteert hij met Paul Sikivie op bas en Lawrence Leathers op drums het album Space Time Continuum. Het idee achter dit album is om verschillende generaties samen te brengen en samen te laten werken, wat volgens Diehl essentieel is voor de ontwikkeling van jazzmuziek. Downbeat schreef: ‘Diehl incorporates many voices into his new project, all from different eras and with varying approaches to jazz. Here, though, they’re all saying the same thing: The very best jazz is timeless.’
